The "Keeping Children Safe" DVD is a comprehensive
injury prevention tool designed to help educate parents about
the most frequent causes of injury to children age 0-5 years
and prevention strategies. The DVD consists of 26 "vignettes" which
demonstrate a "wrong" and "right" way
to protect a child from injury.
The causes of injury that are demonstrated in the DVD, as well as the
appropriate educational messages associated with each cause were
developed as a result of feedback from local multidisciplinary injury
prevention experts. Additionally, the DVD was reviewed by focus groups of parents
of children age 0 to 5 years to test the understanding of the scenarios, the
clarity of the educational messages, and the overall "likeability" of
the product. Parents representing the diversity of cultures in Orange County
were represented in the focus groups.
