AAP Launches the Childhood Burn
Prevention Campaign
California Chapter
4, American Academy of Pediatrics’ staff will be visiting
your office during September and October 2009 to deliver a tool
kit of educational materials to distribute to your patients/clients.
The tool kit includes educational flyers (produced in English,
Spanish and Vietnamese) and promotional stickers.
Burns are the
third leading cause of injury hospitalizations for children
0 - 4 years in Orange County, and there are more burn injuries
in this age group than any other. The major causes for burns
among young children are hot liquids, hot tap water, and hot
objects, although injury by fire also occurs.
The California
Chapter 4, American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Injury,
Violence and Poison Prevention (COIVPP), whose members include
representatives from the health care community, met several times
to plan and implement this community outreach campaign on childhood
burn prevention.
California Chapter 4, American Academy
of Pediatrics’ staff
developed a tool kit of educational materials deliver to your
patients/clients. The tool kit includes professionally printed
flyers (produced in English, Spanish and Vietnamese) and promotional
stickers. If you are interested in purchasing a tool kit, please
contact Jamie
McDonald, MPH, CHES for
